When we should not mow
- Saturated or standing water. Mowing wet, soft ground tears the soil and leaves ruts.
- Drought stress. If the lawn is brittle, brown, or wilting in a heat wave, cutting it shorter makes the stress worse. We raise the height or skip the visit.
- Frost or frozen turf. Foot traffic and mower tires bruise frozen grass.
- Right after seeding, until the new grass is established enough to take a cut.
- Immediately after a treatment if the product needs to stay put and dry. We time the cut around that, not through it.
